Pearce has said that she “knew the night I got married” that the marriage would fail. The country star spoke with Bunnie XO on her Dumb Blonde podcast and shared insight into her brief marriage to country singer Michael Ray, which ended last year. Pearce said that while she and Ray “had a great time” and a “good relationship, it was lustful.”

Pearce said that Ray was the first man she introduced to her husband. “I thought he was so cute, I’m like ‘Oh my God, this guy is so cute,’” she said. “I heard from the best of people that he is the nicest guy in the world. I literally introduced him to my husband. I asked him to my No. 1 party for Every Little Thing.” Pearce added that she later “found out that that wasn’t love … it was lustful, passionate.”

Pearce continued: “I wish I hadn’t given up on it too quickly, but I knew the night I got married, I shouldn’t have got married, that’s the truth. But I don’t know. We didn’t have any real conversations, and we didn’t really know about each other. I just felt like we were kind of living this life that wasn’t really reality.” She and Ray wed in 2019 and split in 2020.

Upon marrying Ray, Pearce was torn. She said: “I got married to go the distance. When I married him, it was for the right reasons.” Pearce said on the podcast: “I think we were so on fire that we just didn’t slow down and see if it was really real, or was this going to slow down?”

Pearce filed for divorce in March 2020. Pearce added, “This isn’t what I signed up for at all. I knew it was the wrong thing when I married him. I knew that day it wasn’t real.” In an Instagram Live earlier this month, Pearce said of the divorce: “It was as real as it gets. This isn’t the breakup. The breakup was between two people. These are two people who are breaking off the relationship of marriage. It’s a very different emotion and a very different pain.”

The 31-year-old country singer said of Ray: “If I ever saw him, if he ever watches this, thank you because you taught me more about myself.” She added that Ray had “taught her how strong she is” through the painful period. “You put me through things that have made me better now. And I don’t wish you evil. I don’t wish anything on you, Mike. I am so glad that I’m not in that anymore.”
