Last Trailer for Ballerina Sets Stage for Explosive Showdown
The story of John Wick and his ongoing battle against the criminal underworld he once called home is coming to a slightly new spin-off with Ballerina. We9ve seen a couple of trailers for this film, and each one is bigger and more brutal than the last. With its release on June 6th, 2025, it9s set to arrive three weeks from today.
We9ve already learned the Ballerina was the daughter of a hitman named Eva, whose family was killed while she was young and taken in by the Russian Roma. She was a member of a special class of elite assassins led by the Director, played by Anjelica Huston. Their academy of ballerina/killing was brutally hinted at in Chapter 3 when we saw one of the dance students murder her peers, played by Unity Phelan. Now, we9ll finally see her and the full story behind her time with these assassins, and that9s Ana de Armas in the lead role.
The Villain and A Deadly Russian Academy
As the second trailer lets us know, Ana9s Eve wasn9t with these Russian ballerina killers by chance. Her father was a Roma himself, and his murder set in motion Eve9s need to seek out vengeance. Director Huston makes a return in the film, but will the crew of the Continental be around to give advice as well?
Ian McShane will reprise his role as the manager Winston, and even though he9s been gone for a while, it9s fun to see his scene-stealing face pop up yet again. But one other actor we will see who recently passed away. Lance Reddick died in March of 2023, and the late actor makes his final appearance as the Continental Hotel9s steadfast concierge, Charon.
Gabriel Byrne is in on the action as well, cast in the role of the Chancellor. Eve9s target and the primary antagonist of the film, this leader of the law and order body, is seeking her out as well for reasons we9re not yet sure of. Sharon Duncan-Brewster is Eve9s mentor, and someone we learned a bit about in the original trailer as well. The man is Nogi.
Norman Reedus is in the film as well. He9s the mysterious Daniel Pine with whom Eve is with throughout a good portion of the trailer. Catalina Sandino Moreno and David Casta F1eda also star, but there9s no hint at their roles as of yet. We know the John Wick world, the Director and her troupe, the Continental, and Winston, so we9re good to go, I think.
But What Will This Spin-Off Bring?
Ana de Armas steps into this world on the heels of a strong showing in Mainstream. It9s an opportunity to show off her moves, and the trailers so far are bloody proof she9s up for the job. Ballerina tells her story in a serialized, cinematic universe-type way, but there9s enough about it so far that it looks like we9ll get the characters we know and love. One of my hopes for this film and why I9m excited for it is that it will give Ana a chance to shine.
It also sets her up as a prot E9g E9 of Winston9s from her time with the Roma. So there9s an opportunity there for the actress to have an expansion of the lore as well. The new trailer is less explicit, save for the endi which is brutally fun, but there9s plenty of references and Easter eggs in there for sure. I can9t wait to check it out myself when it arrives later this year.
Catalina Sandino Moreno and David Casta F1eda also star, but there9s no hint at their roles as of yet. We know the John Wick world, the Director and her troupe, the Continental, and Winston, so we9re good to go.
